My presentation...

So my presentation is done and over with...fInAlLy!!! My presentation was on Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream and their philosophy "You don't have to be a pro to make incredibly delicious ice cream".

Yesterday I seriously thought I was going to die from the anxiety. I know that I had no reason to worry, but I just hate getting up in front of people! I am SO glad it's over with. Now I can finally relax and study for the big anatomy test tomorow!

The girls in class are so nice and super supportive. They participated in my silly little games and asked questions which really took a lot of pressure away from me. The first minute was the worst and then from there it just kind of flowed and worked out. I was really nervous that I would constantly look down at my outline and just read from it word for word, but I don't think I ended up doing that very much. yay!

Overall I think I did a pretty good job considering the fact that I have an extreme phobia of public speaking. I hope the class enjoyed learning how to make ice cream! Maybe next time I won't be so scared...I doubt it!

Chelsea, Lisa, Amy & Tam did their presentations today too. They all did awesome! And the best part is I got free glitter toes out of it, thanks to Chelsea!

Presentations

Today 4 people in class did their presentations. I thought everyone did really well. I was worried that today would be boring because of the presentations, but I really was not bored at all.

The things that I thought people could have improved a little bit on:
  • Rushing through the slides.
  • Making the introductions a little bit more catching.
  • Having more confidence in their knowledge of the subject. Everyone did great research and knew a lot about their topic, but a couple of people weren't confident in that and used their notes a lot (which I'm sure I will do too).

Things that I thought people did really well on:

  • Everyone was very prepared and knew a lot about their topic.
  • You could tell that everyone was passionate about their topic which made it more interesting and fun.
  • I felt like everyone had a really good conclusion to their presentation.
  • I liked how people had either videos or stories to make their presentation flow, and it was nice not to have it all just talking.
  • When the audience had questions the speakers did really well at transitioning and answering their questions. That wouldn't have gone well if the speakers didn't know what they were talking about.
  • They all had great visuals!

I really do think that everyone did a great job. You could totally tell that a lot of effort was put into each one of them. I'm so nervous for mine!

My Perfect Meeting...

In my head a perfect "beginning of the month meeting" in a dental office would go a little like this. . .

  1. The office manager or doctor would have a meeting agenda to pass out to everyone. It would list things that needed to be addressed, goals that needed to be made for the new month, and also things that we need to accomplish in the meeting.

  2. There would be lunch served at the meeting (the doctor would pay of course). Everyone is happier when their tummies are happy...I think that when I'm eating I pay attention better too.

  3. The office manager would follow the agenda and keep everyone on task. If people take things away from the topic the office manager would make sure to bring the group back to topic before things get out of control and nothing gets accomplished.

  4. When asked for the groups input on the listed topics or on the new month's goals the office manager would write them down to make sure that they are referred to later on if necessary.

  5. In a perfect meeting the length will never exceed 90 minutes.

  6. Instead of having a random time of "airing of grievances" the office manager would personally ask the employees before the meeting if they had any issues they would like to discuss during the meeting. The employee wouldn't have to voice their concerns to the office manager, but they would say yes or no. If they did have an issue they would tell the office manager how much time they would need to resolve it with the group. This would make it so the office manager would put this into the agenda, and make sure that the time is turned over to this employee and not forgotten about.

  7. In a perfect meeting the doctor wouldn't ramble on about tedious little things. He wouldn't give a lame speech about how the practice needs to have some insane amount of production so that he can go to Europe for his next vacation.

  8. The meeting would be wrapped up by the doctor and/or office manager letting the staff know that they are appreciated. Of course only if they have been working hard, and have achieved the goals that were set for the last meeting (by either genuine words or some form of monetary gift).

This is how a perfect meeting would go if we lived in Angela's idea of a perfect world.

My Communication Issues

I'm sure my husband would have a lot to say about the way I communicate. But this is my blog, and I'm the one taking the class. I think I am good at communicating and expressing myself in small groups of people. Whether it be in the work place, school, or church I feel most comfortable in small groups.
I feel like the area I need to most improve or work on is my one on one communication with authority figures such as my doctor I work for or an intimidating teacher. We all know I have a phobia of public speaking so I'm sure that this class might be able to help me with that issue...probably not cure me though. I wish. I honestly need counseling. I think to improve myself in communicating with authority figures I will need to practice, face my fears, and learn the best way to effectively communicate my ideas or feelings to them in a non-confrontational matter.

School Project

So for my communications class we have to make a blog...but I can't use my existing one. I know, lame right? So here is my new blog. I don't know what I will have to put on it.
