gender equality

Describe the ideal version of "Feminism" in the 21st century.  What should gender equality, family and status look like in the coming century?

I think that ideally women should be able to have no limits to what they can achieve, just like any man.  There shouldn't be anything, or anyone, holding a woman back from what she believes that she can achieve.  I think that we have as a society have already taken huge strides in this area.  However, not everyone feels the same way...and that in itself holds women back.

I think that coming into a new century gender equality will not be an issue.  I assume that we will have a woman president within the next few terms.  Women are already filling significant positions which used to be traditionally male dominated...such as doctors, lawyers, dentists etc.  This will only increase.  I expect that gender equality will continue to advance, especially in the workplace.

As far as the family...I think that this is a very, very personal topic.  What works for one family may not work for another.  I might be fine with staying at home and being the nurturer, while my husband works but that certainly does not work in every family.  I don't think I would be okay with my husband staying at home 100% of the time while I worked.  However I don't think that this is wrong, perhaps in other situations the father might be a better nurturer than his wife.  I think that in the years to come we will continue to see these rolls reversed, and it will become more of the "norm".  I personally believe that it is the parents and family responsibility to create a suitable environement for their children to be raised as potential good citizens of society.  I do not think that this is society's responsibility, or the education system's responsibility, when both parents are working.  I think that it is becoming more normal for both parents to be working out of the home, which is fine.  However I do not think it is fine when they blame the educational system or lack of affordable child care for their children's problems.

Hopefully one day we will live in a society where our race, religion, or gender doesn't effect our future. Oh wait, does it effect us now?

  1. I agree. I think that there should be mor equality and that every family has a different situation. Maybe both parents need to work to support the family. I like the idea of having a choice as far as choosing to work or not.

  2. I also agree. Gender, race, or relgion shouldnt effect or hold anyone back from their full potential. I feel like we shouldnt blame the issues with our children and society on our educational and childcare programs and that parents should take responsibility in raising respectful, moral, little people of our future.

  3. It is amazing to think that gender equality is almost becoming a thing of the past. Just 50 years ago it would not have been possible for a woman to be in control as much as they are today. There were so many deterrents placed on women that it made the possibility becoming whatever they wanted to be impossible. I am excited for this evolution, and the fact that someday I may have a daughter and she will have every opportunity to become whatever she chooses, whether it be a stay at home mom or a nuclear scientist.

  4. I completey agree with what you have to say, parents are so quick to want to work and have their children in daycare or programs and then want to blam others if their kids have problems or issues when in alreality yes the kids learn in school but if they are stuggeling it is the parent responsibity to see and help. not be so concerned with having to work and using the education system as a childcare. I hope that one day we will live in a society where our race, religion, or gender dosent effect our future as well. I think that is does effect in a sence but not as much as it did 10 years ago. BB
